MUN Vocabulary 101 — Speak Like a Diplomat 🎓

🇺🇳New to Model United Nations? Let’s learn the 5 most common MUN terms so you can shine at the conference!

1️⃣Delegate – A participant who represents a country, person, or organization in a committee 💬
For example: “The delegate of Brazil would like to speak.”

2️⃣Resolution – A written document proposing solutions to the issue being discussed 💬
Think of it as the goal of the debate!

3️⃣Motion – A formal request to do something (start debate, vote, take a break, etc.) 💬
For example: “Motion to open the general speakers’ list”

4️⃣Point of Order – Used when a rule is broken or something needs clarification 💬
For example: “Point of order! Isn’t the speaker out of time?”

5️⃣Caucus – A break from formal debate to negotiate and write resolutions 💬
There are two types:

👥Moderated – Short, timed speeches with the chair controlling the flow.

👤Unmoderated – Free time to move around and talk with others.
