Ethereum is preparing its biggest upgrade since the Merge.
Developers of Ethereum have moved the Glamsterdam upgrade into the final stage of development. The team is currently testing a devnet that includes all planned EIPs before moving to public testnets.
Glamsterdam is being described as one of Ethereum’s largest upgrades in recent years. Key changes include:
Built-in Proposer-Builder Separation (PBS) — designed to reduce risks associated with MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) and limit block-building concentration and manipulation.
Block-level Access Lists — intended to improve block processing speed and make execution costs more predictable.
The upgrade will also adjust Ethereum’s gas economics: computation is expected to become cheaper, while state usage and storage will become more expensive.
Deployment is expected in the second half of the year, although no official launch date has been announced yet.
