Between 1603 and 1868 Japan had what was termed the Sakoku policy enforced. This policy was a self isolationist policy aimed at blocking out the rest of the world in Japan.
The Japanese were not allowed to leave the country while foreigners were not allowed in, Catholic missionaries were banned, goods, clothing or anything from abroad was banned, including written letters. All this was punishable by death.
Yet we see this, so-called Greco Roman architecture usually classified as 'western' all over Japan and allegedly built precisely during this period.
Japan was particularly hostile to the west during this period and its is well known that the Japanese carry their own flavor in building styles. Look at the details, the spires, the window frames and dome.
These were features belonging to a past advanced and united civilization.
