🗣 Podcast on Idioms: Business meetings

😏 From our sexy juicy book: Idioms in Use Advanced by Crapbridge University Bollocks

Let me bore you to death on which idioms are useful and which aren't with more supporting examples💪

🇬🇧 Idioms Podcast 😮

😒 Unit 31: Business meetings (Idioms in Use Mildly Advanced)

Hi guys, we'll play a game: who can get bored the quickest from these idioms 😫

As per usual, I'll go over these gems explaining them in more detail. 🥱 (I'll try to make them as interesting as possible)

Coming later today 👍

🇬🇧 My favourite phrasal verb:

😱 TO FOLLOW THROUGH

✅ The standard meaning: to continue an action to its conclusion:
👉🏼 to follow through with your threats (you promise AND carry them out)
👉🏼 After this interview you need to follow through (maybe you promised hard work and now you must show it)

💩 The cool meaning. You fart a little too forcefully and a surprise pops out. (Yep, we have a word for this)
👉🏼 "My darling, we need to call a taxi home now! I wanted to fart but followed through. I'm so sorry." - "Emmm, can we finish our wedding ceremony first, please?"

🇬🇧 Pointless word of the day:

✅ Banister: the uprights and handrail on the side of a staircase.

👉🏼 Hold onto the banister!
👉🏼 As a kid I used to slide down the banister
👉🏼 Yesterday I got my head stuck between the banisters (the upright parts) and my name is Paul Newson and I'm almost 45 🤪

Inspiration for the post: I wanted to slide down the banister in my new house but I'm 95kg and almost 45. I'm too adult for such things. Now I'm going to jump up and down on my new sofa to stress-test it☝️🏼

🇬🇧 Just learned a new word in Russian

🇷🇺 Плёнка = Cling Film

But this Russian word sounds almost identical to our English 'Plonker' which means 'A complete idiot' 😂

Ya learn smth every day👍

😍 A wonderful Saturday spent in Obninsk, Kaluga region, with Inna Skidan (friend and student), at first in her awesome language school (Dream Big) and then off to get some food with the Obninsk Massive (your new gang name I've assigned you 😁)

Wonderful chats and bloody perfect English today! I get paranoid when i talk to many of you (here on Telegram or VK) 😂 I keep on thinking that you're English is so good that soon you won't need me😁

🇬🇧 A pointless word for you 😂

To have a KINK in the hosepipe (to remove any kinks from the hose) 🤓 See picture above.

Inspiration: i spent the evening trying out my new lawnmower and strimmer and then watered the lawn. The water wasn't coming through the hose because there were a couple of kinks.💦💦💦

P.s. it's time to organise a social meeting in Moscow asap!

🇬🇧 So love Russian people 🇷🇺

I was in Leroy Merlin in Podolsk stuggling to choose which lawnmower to buy and a Russian sales assistant came over to help. He was so kind, smily and upon realizing I was English, even tried his A1 level best to tell me the difference between the best and worst lawnmowers being very genuine about it. I said to him in Russian:

"такие люди, как вы, делают эту страну моим домом" (sorry for the mistakes)

People are so kind to me here 🥹 and such events happen almost daily. I love people everywhere in fact but happen to live in Russia and am expressing my gratitude towards these fine people 🇷🇺

Oh and if anyone wants to stop following me because I love people including wonderful Russians, we have an awesome expression in English: Don't let the door hit you in the arse on your way out 😁😉

🚗 GOODBYE KAZAN, BACK TO MOSCOW 🚗

Hi my friends! Tomorrow I'll have a leisurely drive to Nizhniy Novgorod stuck behind mental truck drivers on a single lane highway and then on Saturday the rest of the leg to Moscow 😎

Kazan is a gorgeous place with wonderful people and food (the fruit and veg ohhhhhhhh). I made some good friends here especially my gym trainer Artur! Thanks for the slang 👍, had a great conference, met some teachers and swam in the Volga. But I miss Moscow so badly and realize it's where i want to grow old and gray hair. Correction: just grow old ☝️🏽 Even the guy who sorted out my washing machine yesterday has relatives in Moscow and was mightily surprised I knew their town Iksha, just off Dmitrovskaya Shosse near the T-34 museum... from an Englishman 😂 Moscow's home home!

Soooo, tomorrow, lots of manic British road rage😁 Oh and I know I'm supposed to sit down for a minute in silence before departing. Anything else necessary like throwing salt over my shoulder or sacrificing a hamster or something? 🤔

Do you ever stare at your kids in such a way by looking their arms up and down admiring their perfection, their little ears, tiny toes, the random sweetness of their words and behaviour (most of the time) like: Daddy shower bum bum! Or: daddy no sing, Mia's ears boo boo (hurt). You're suddenly overcome by a rush of emotion that being undying love for your child ❤️

P.s. The car was parked so I let her play in the back. She's always buckled up when I drive like the deranged maniac I am at the wheel🙈😁 Just wanted to avoid any issues that may arise😂

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 3 words to show off with 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

The following words are never used among English speakers but are known to show off with. Like, when trying to prove how well someone knows English, they'd ask the meaning of one of the following:

🤓 MORIBUND 🤓
(A person on the point of death)
👉🏼 Jane wasn't hideously ugly. She was in fact moribund displaying a pale blue face.

🤓 PETRICHOR 🤓
(That pleasant fresh smell of rain when it hits soil or concrete usually in hot weather)
👉🏼 The petrichor emanated all around me after a short downpour.

🤓 CRAPULOUS 🤓
(Drunk)
👉🏼 Sorry, love. I'm wearing my beer-goggles. I'm totally crapulous right now! (We'd never say that btw)

So guys, start showing off👋

🇬🇧 Competition 🇬🇧

🤓 How well do you know the UK?

Most of you teach English. But how much do you actually know about the UK without typical rubbish like what's Big Ben, where does the King live, and do Brits drink tea at 5pm?🤪 Nah, proper stuff this time. How many answers out of 10 did you get right?😎

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 New Expression: Fog Bomb 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Hi guys! Brand new expression that's spreading like wild fire in the English community: to drop a fog bomb.

This is taken from the expression: fog of war. It's where we're left none the wiser because of disinformation. I can say the BBC has been dropping loads of fog bombs; to cloud our judgement.

This expression is really informal but cool. Also learn: brain fog. 🧠 I've had that due to a constant lack of proper sleep.

Enjoy 😍😍❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🤓🤓
