The creators of G-Bots were inspired by Japanese gundam robots and the Toy Story cartoon. Gundam (or Gunpla (ガンプラ, Ganpura)) are model sets depicting vehicles and characters from the fictional Gundam universe. In the 1980s in Japan and nearby Asian countries, these kits became popular among Mecha anime fans and model lovers. Gundam modeling became popular in the 1990s as North America and Europe were introduced to Gundam through television, video, and manga. The robots were also heavily influenced by Super Deformed (aka SD or chibi), a style of manga and anime that features smaller, distorted versions of pre-existing characters. Some of the most characteristic features of this style are small legs, tiny hands, compact torsos and large heads. Nevertheless, G-bots is a project that reveals not just a particular style of depicting robots, but a story about all kinds of robots that exist in the world.
