A Parable About Resentment with a Deep Meaning 🥔💭
A student asked his teacher:
— "You are so wise. You're always in a good mood and never get angry. Help me become like you."
The teacher agreed and asked the student to bring some potatoes and a clear bag.
— "If you get angry with someone and hold a grudge," the teacher said, "take a potato. Write your name on one side of it and the name of the person with whom you had a conflict on the other side. Then put the potato in the bag."
— "Is that all?" the student asked, puzzled.
— "No," the teacher replied. "You must carry this bag with you at all times. Every time you hold a grudge against someone, add another potato to it."
The student agreed.
Some time passed. The student’s bag filled with more potatoes and became quite heavy. It was very inconvenient to carry it everywhere. Moreover, the potatoes from the beginning started to rot. They became slimy, some sprouted, and others began to stink badly.
The student came to the teacher and said:
— "This is impossible to carry around. The bag is too heavy, and the potatoes have gone bad. Please suggest something else."
But the teacher replied:
— "The same happens in your soul. When you hold grudges or get angry with someone, a heavy stone appears in your heart. You don’t notice it at first. Over time, the stones multiply. Actions turn into habits, habits into character, which breeds vile vices. I gave you the opportunity to observe this process from the outside. Every time you decide to hold a grudge or hurt someone, think: do you really need this stone?"
