─────── TH’ PRIMROSE.

If any, o’ our wild plants are more generally known, or more widely appreciated, than th’ beautiful flower figured on th’ present plate. Th’ graceful form o’ th’ widely - expanded blossoms, th’ delicacy o’ their colour ’nd fragrance, their profusion ’nd th’ time o’ th’ year at which they are found, are all features that tend to endear them to all lovers o’ plants. Th’ colour is a very unusual one; th’ only blossom that we can call to remembrance as we write that at all closely resembles it is one o’ th’ beautiful plants o’ th’ rivers o’ tropical America, th’ Lymnocharis Humboldtii, which, though very different in form, has th’ same delicate sulphur tint o’er tg’ greater part o’ each petal ’nd th’ same rish spot o’ deep, clear yellow at its base, that we see ’nd admire in th’ primrose. Th’ L. Humboldtii appears to be a by no means troublesome plant to cultivate ’nd our readers will find.

GO PLACIDLY AMID TH’ NOISE & HASTE, & REMEMBER WHAT PEACE THERE MAY BE IN SILENCE.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly & clearly; ’nd listen to others, even th’ dull & ignorant; they too have their story.  ❀ ׁAvoid loud & aggressive persons, they are vexations to th’ spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain & bitter; for always there will be greater & lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.  ❀ ׁ Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in th’ changing fortunes o’ time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for th’ world is full o’ trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; ’nd everywhere life is full o’ heroism.  ❀ ׁ Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in th’ face o’ all aridity & disenchantment it is perennial as th’ grass.  ❀ ׁ Take kindly th’ counsel o' th’ years, gracefully surrendering th’ things o’ youth. Nurture strength o’ spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born o’ fatigue & loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.  ❀ ׁ You are a child o’ universe, no less than th’ trees & th’ stars; you have a right to be here. ’nd whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt th’ universe is unfolding as it should.  ❀ ׁ Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, ’nd whatever your labors & aspirations, in th’ noisy confusion o’ life keep peace with your soul.  ❀ ׁ With all its sham, drudgery & broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.  ❀ ׁ ❀ ׁ
