A Technique and a type of decorative art based on it, which consists of cutting out figures from a material such as multicolored paper, cardboard, fabric, or leather, and attaching them to a base. Unlike the similar technique of appliqué, collage uses a variety of materials that differ in nature, color, and texture, as well as different techniques for combining them, such as fabric and cardboard, canvas and metal foil. The overall result is a desired composition. In this regard, a collage is similar to a mosaic, particularly an inlay, intarsia, or marquetry. In the latter cases, the elements of the figures and background are equally mobile and are mounted on a common base[1] In postmodern and contemporary art, abstract collages are created from garbage, scraps of magazines, newspapers, boxes, notes, and documents. In modern times, it is acceptable to modify the fragments of a collage using other visual materials and tools, such as ink, acrylic, gouache, watercolors, gel pens, felt-tip pens, and markers. One of the goals of the collage technique is to add emotional intensity and sharpness to the artwork
