We are pausing the delivery of aid through Kerem Shalom, the main crossing point for humanitarian aid into #Gaza.

The road out of this crossing has not been safe for months.
On 16 November, a large convoy of aid trucks was stolen by armed gangs.
Yesterday, we tried to bring in a few food trucks on the same route. They were all taken.

This difficult decision comes at a time hunger is rapidly deepening.
The delivery of humanitarian aid must never be dangerous or turn into an ordeal.

In #Gaza, the humanitarian operation has become unnecessarily impossible due to:
- The ongoing siege,
- Hurdles from Israeli authorities,
- ⁠Political decisions to restrict the amounts of aid,
- ⁠Lack of safety on aid routes and
- ⁠Targeting of local police.

All of the above led to a breakdown in law and order.

The responsibility of protection of aid workers + supplies is with the State of Israel as the occupying power.
They must ensure aid flows into Gaza safely & must refrain from attacks on humanitarian workers.

I call once again for a #ceasefire that would also secure the delivery of safe & uninterrupted aid to people in need.

📃The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli airstrike on a vehicle belonging to the World Central Kitchen (WCK) in Khan Younis. The incident claimed the lives of five Palestinians, including three WCK staff members. Following the incident, the WCK announced suspension of its operations in the #Gaza Strip.

▫️This is the second time IOF have targeted a WCK team. On 01 April 2024, a previous strike on a WCK vehicle in central Gaza claimed the lives of seven staff members, including six foreign nationals. That incident also forced the organization to pause its operations in Gaza.

▫️PCHR is deeply concerned that such attacks are part of the IOF’s deliberate policy to enforce starvation and restrict the delivery of humanitarian aid and food supplies as well as hindering the international relief organizations’ work, thus perpetuating genocide against the Palestinian people.

With escalating criminal activity, lack of safety on aid routes, and an unprecedented number of colleagues killed, UNRWA has been forced to suspend aid deliveries into #Gaza through Kerem Shalom. "This decision is taken solely to protect and for the safety of the humanitarians operating these convoys," @UNWateridge told @AJEnglish.
