Never has the topic of university studies ceased to be a controversial issue around the globe. It is argued that being away from home while studying at university is far better than living with their parents during one’s studies. I completely agree with this statement.

On the one hand, there are many benefits to staying with parents. The first advantage is financial savings on rent and utilities, as living with parents involves no rent payments and utility bills. If students have less financial stress, they can focus more on their studies, not having to work to cover their expenses. So, this leads to much higher academic performance among students with an average GPA of 3-3.5. The second advantage might be the comfort and convenience. While living with parents, individuals feel more socially comfortable as they can participate in family gatherings and events, which can be a good chance to strengthen relationships with other relatives, leading to reduced loneliness.

On the other hand, staying away from home is much better in terms of being independent and learning to take responsibility. Living apart has numerous advantages in enhancing soft skills, specifically problem-solving and decision-making skills. When living in an apartment or a dormitory, students have to deal with broken appliances themselves, which prepares them for bigger life challenges in their future lives, and in big cities, they have to navigate through public transportation, which can also improve those soft skills. Furthermore, by coping with academic responsibilities at the same time as working in part-time, effective time management skills is also developed among students. Other major benefits of being away are developing social skills and networking. It is highly possible to interact with their roommates while living in dormitories or apartments, which leads to improvements in skills like communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution, and campus activities such as participation in clubs or joining sports teams provide opportunities to meet new people and build friendships. Moreover, by attending networking events like career fairs and guest lectures at universities as well as working part-time or interning while studying, students build professional relationships.

In conclusion, by learning independence and responsibilities, and developing social skills and networking, students become more mature in their future lives. I, therefore, agree with the given assertion.
