Condemnation of the Cuban State for Violence Against José Daniel Ferrer and Demand for His Immediate Release

The Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) firmly and strongly condemns the brutal aggression suffered by José Daniel Ferrer, UNPACU's general coordinator and president of the Council for Democratic Transition in Cuba (CTDC), at the hands of guards in Mar Verde prison, Santiago de Cuba. After the beating, Ferrer had to be urgently transferred to the prison hospital, reflecting the critical condition to which he has been subjected.

The Cuban regime continues to hold Ferrer in inhumane conditions, isolating him and denying communication with his family in a clear attempt to undermine his physical and mental health. This situation, which has persisted for nearly four years, constitutes systematic torture and a flagrant violation of the most basic human rights. Ferrer was supposed to be released on April 1, but the Cuban State has failed to comply, defying international laws and perpetuating his unjust detention.

UNPACU denounces this act of violence, which once again highlights the subhuman conditions and cruel treatment faced by political prisoners in Cuba. Nothing in prison regulations justifies the use of force, physical or psychological torture, or the constant humiliation imposed on individuals like José Daniel Ferrer, who defend their rights and those of their people.

We urge international organizations such as the International Criminal Court, the United Nations Human Rights Council, the OAS, and the European Parliament to condemn these actions and impose immediate sanctions on those responsible for these abuses. Silence only serves to strengthen the Cuban regime's oppression, led by Miguel Díaz-Canel and Raúl Castro, who must be held accountable for these acts.

We make an urgent appeal to democratic nations worldwide to act decisively. José Daniel Ferrer's life is in grave danger, as are the rights and freedoms of all Cubans fighting for change. The international community cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of the Cuban people.

Finally, we call on the Cuban people not to give up and to continue demanding their freedom in the streets, as other nations have done in the face of oppressive regimes. No wall can withstand the cry of a united people. It is time to defend human dignity, freedom, and the rights of the Cuban people with courage and determination.

"The legal defense of General Walter Souza Braga Netto strongly rejects and immediately denounces the improper dissemination of information related to inquiries, granted 'exclusively' to certain media outlets to the detriment of due access by the directly involved and interested parties. Accordingly, the defense will await the official receipt of the relevant information to adopt a formal and substantiated position."

On Wednesday, the PF conducted an operation that arrested six military personnel accused of plotting to assassinate President Lula and Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

➡️ The PF revealed that one soldier approached the vicinity of Moraes' residence with the intent of arresting the magistrate.

➡️ Bolsonaro's reference to the term "creativity" alludes to a message from Airton Vieira, an advisor to Moraes' office, to Eduardo Tagliaferro, the then head of the Special Advisory Office for Combating Disinformation at the Superior Electoral Court.
