Spica, designated α Virginis, is the brightest object in the constellation of Virgo and one of the 20 brightest stars in the night sky. Analysis of its parallax shows that it is located 250 ± 10 light-years from the Sun.

Distance to Earth: 260.9 light years

Procyon Star

Procyon is the brightest star in the constellation of Canis Minor and usually the eighth-brightest star in the night sky, with a visual apparent magnitude of 0.34. It has the Bayer designation α Canis Minoris, which is Latinized to Alpha Canis Minoris, and abbreviated α CMi or Alpha CMi, respectively.

Distance to Earth: 11.45 light years
Age: 1.701 billion years
Constellation: Canis Minor

Astronomers have discovered a stellar corpse known as a white dwarf that is roughly the size of Earth’s moon. The white dwarf is about 4,300 kilometers across, while the moon is 3,500 kilometers across. The new discovery provides an example of what can happen after this phase. The pair of white dwarfs, which spiral around each other, lose energy in the form of gravitational waves and ultimately merge. If the dead stars are massive enough, they explode in what is called a type Ia supernova. This process of merging boosts the magnetic field of that star and speeds up its rotation compared to that of the progenitors.

Barnard 68 is a molecular cloud, dark absorption nebula or Bok globule, towards the southern constellation Ophiuchus and well within our own galaxy at a distance of about 500 light-years, so close that not a single star can be seen between it and the Sun.

Distance to Earth: 500 light years
Radius: 0.25 light years
Right ascension: 17h 22m 38.2s
Constellation: Ophiuchus

Segue 2 is a dwarf spheroidal galaxy situated in the constellation Aries and discovered in 2009 in the data obtained by Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The galaxy is located at the distance of about 35 kiloparsecs from the Sun and moves towards the Sun at a speed of 40 km/s.

Radius: 110.89 light years
Magnitude: 15.2
Constellation: Aries

Castor is the second-brightest object in the zodiac constellation of Gemini and one of the brightest stars in the night sky. It has the Bayer designation α Geminorum, which is Latinised to Alpha Geminorum and abbreviated Alpha Gem or α Gem.

Distance to Earth: 50.88 light years
Constellation: Gemini

One of the 48 constellations described by the 2nd-century astronomer Ptolemy, Boötes is now one of the 88 modern constellations. It contains the fourth-brightest star in the night sky, the orange giant Arcturus. Epsilon Bootis, or Izar, is a colourful multiple star popular with amateur astronomers. Boötes is home to many other bright stars, including eight above the fourth magnitude and an additional 21 above the fifth magnitude, making a total of 29 stars easily visible to the naked eye.

Arcturus is the brightest star in the constellation of Boötes, the fourth-brightest in the night sky, and the brightest in the northern celestial hemisphere. Together with Spica and Denebola (or Regulus, depending on the source), Arcturus is part of the Spring Triangle asterism and, by extension, also of the Great Diamond along with the star Cor Caroli. When viewed from Earth, it appears to be positioned almost at the north galactic pole of the Milky Way.

Distance to Earth: 36.66 light years
Radius: 17.671 million km
Surface temperature: 4,290 K
Magnitude: -0.04
Constellation: Boötes
Spectral type: K1.5IIIFe-0.5

Canopus is the brightest star in the southern constellation of Carina and the second-brightest star in the night sky. It is also designated α Carinae, which is Latinised to Alpha Carinae. With a visual apparent magnitude of −0.74, it is outshone only by Sirius.

Radius: 49.395 million km
Magnitude: -0.72
Surface temperature: 7,350 K
Luminosity: 10,700 L☉
Constellation: Carina
Spectral type: A9 II

Distance to Earth: 77.79 million km
Radius: 6.2 km
Gravity: 0.003 m/s²
Orbital period: 30 hours
Age: 4.503 billion years
Orbits: Mars

The Black Widow Pulsar is an eclipsing binary millisecond pulsar in the Milky Way. Discovered in 1988, it is located roughly 6,500 light-years away from Earth. It orbits with a brown dwarf or Super-Jupiter companion with a period of 9.2 hours with an eclipse duration of approximately 20 minutes.
