In his classic, ‘Metaphysics of War’, Julius Evola speaks of war having two natures: the “lesser holy war”, being material in nature and involving a struggle against an external enemy, and the “greater holy war”, which is of an inner, spiritual nature, in which one battles against the lower forms of the self, only to conquer and overcome them.

Fight Club put it more simply: “We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives.”

Our Great War is indeed a spiritual war, but those of us who fight this war will not succumb to depression, nor will we suffer lack of place or purpose. Our greatest battles will be internal, the external struggles that all of us engage in daily only being the outward manifestations of our great self-overcoming.

And those of us who fight this war will never truly perish.

It’s often said that tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire.

We see throughout the modern world this worship of ashes. From the empty shell of once meaningful institutions such as the British monarchy, to the almost schizophrenic identification with the American state and its system of government. Indeed, we are surrounded by ashes, and very little fire.

The fire that is worth preserving doesn’t burn within the once sacred edifices that long ago housed its flames.

It exists in much more humble places: In the mead horn and the evening air as brothers and their families hail the fallen and the soon to be born. In the blood and sweat spilled during training for future battles, while fighting the greater holy war that rages within. In the simple meals shared by brethren on our most holy nights, as the eyes of our children embolden us to resist to our dying breath.

It’s up to us to feed this fire, until it once again lights up the world.

We live in an age of unprecedented material abundance, yet we have never been farther from embodying the ideal which should be the goal of our short time here on earth.

A great artist once said, “Every block of stone has a statue inside it, and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.”

Within our blood lies dormant but nearly limitless power, and we do not lack in either the stone or the tools we need to sculpt ourselves into something greater than death.

A great thinker famously wrote, “In times of peace, the militant man attacks himself.”

We must attack ourselves, not with nihilism and hopelessness, but with a furious and militant contempt for all that is lesser than what yet could be.

To do any less is to shirk our duty.

Brotherhood is the sacred bond created when men engage together in a shared struggle. From this bond, communities are formed, defended, and expanded. From these small communities, great nations and tribes are born.

We are the living progeny of these great nations and tribes. But the bonds of brotherhood that once existed among our ancestors have given way to individualism, greed, and deracination.

It’s up to us to rebuild these sacred bonds from the ground up. And in so doing, we can restart the world.

The struggle against the forces of Chaos (disintegration, entropy and disorder) is the meaning of life… because it IS life.

Just as every great tree reaches ever closer to the Heavens, while drawing and converting energy from the earthly and Chthonic, we as men likewise attain meaning by growing ever closer to the ideal realm of Being, using our Will to convert the raw and formless energy of the material, profane world the into something holy and timeless.

If you are not actively engaging in this process, you are dying. Slowly, but surely. And yet by great acts of Will, we can also transcend death. The fact that you are reading this message is proof that your ancestors have done just that. And the fact that we still speak the names of great men we will never know, and whose biological descendants are long since lost in the sands of time (or never lived at all), is a living testament to greater deeds still.

Struggle, that like them, you might live forever.
