🏛️ US Senate seeks investigations into Tether and USDT in Iran
Senator Richard Blumenthal has asked the US Treasury Department and Department of Justice to examine Tether’s compliance with sanctions and anti-money-laundering rules, according to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
The subcommittee reviewed 846 wallets linked to Iran, finding that 84% transacted exclusively or almost exclusively in USDT. Tether says it has frozen around $550 million in USDT tied to Iran’s central bank and other sanctioned entities in 2026.
