Marat Gabidullin
Marat is a former Soviet/Russian VDV officer who joined the Wagner Group in 2015 after years of working in private security. He initially served as a fighter before becoming a reconnaissance company commander and taking part in Wagner's operations in Syria, including the battles for Palmyra and operations around strategic areas and oil fields.
In March 2016, Gabidullin was seriously wounded by shrapnel near Palmyra while fighting ISIS. After recovering, he continued working with Wagner, later becoming an assistant to the chief of staff of an assault detachment. In September 2017, he was appointed an assistant to Yevgeny Prigozhin for tactical matters at Wagner's central office in St. Petersburg. In early 2018, he became a senior adviser to the Syrian "ISIS Hunters" battalion.
Gabidullin left Wagner in early 2019 after disagreements with its internal policies and leadership.
