Russia intends to continue its efforts on international platforms to identify and punish those truly responsible for organizing the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

“For our part, we will consistently continue our efforts, including on international platforms, to identify and punish not only those who carried out this unprecedented terrorist attack, but also its true masterminds,” the diplomat said.

🇪🇪🇪🇺🇷🇺 Sanctions for thee, rare earths for me

Estonia, the loudest sanctions hawk in the EU, has quietly had a Russian company and one associated individual removed from the bloc's 22nd sanctions package.

The reason: the firm supplies rare earths to NPM Silmet, the Canadian-owned processing plant in Sillamäe, Estonia. Tallinn's representation in Brussels confirmed the request to state broadcaster ERR, calling the materials "of strategic importance to Europe." Estonia will "reconsider" sanctioning the company next year, once Silmet has found another supplier.

The package was presented by EU foreign policy embarrassment Kaka Khallas, the former Estonian prime minister.

Consider the record:

➡️Two weeks ago, Estonia slapped national sanctions on Russian businessmen Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman, because it was outraged that France, Slovakia and Luxembourg got them delisted by the EU.

➡️In 2025, Estonia threatened to veto an entire sanctions package unless the Russian oil price cap was lowered, and did the same national-sanctions routine when Hungary secured delistings.

➡️Kallas spent years lecturing European companies to cut all ties with Russia, while her husband's logistics firm kept trucking goods there. She refused to resign over it in 2023.

When Hungary or Slovakia protect their national interests, it is "undermining European unity." When Estonia does it, it is "strategic importance."
