🇺🇸 🔭 Astronomers have observed a massive star, 25 times the size of our Sun, simply vanish from the night sky without the expected explosion. Usually, such giants end their lives in a brilliant supernova, but this star, located in the galaxy NGC 6946, skipped the fireworks. Researchers believe the star underwent a "failed supernova," collapsing directly into a black hole. This discovery suggests that up to 30% of massive stars might quietly become black holes, challenging our understanding of how stars die and how the universe is populated with heavy elements.
