Dubai sets up new free zone for sports, entertainment business activities

The International Sports and Entertainment Zone (ISEZA) is set to debut within the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) Free Zone, facilitating licensing for distinct sports and entertainment business activities.

The zone will provide a platform for licensing businesses across established sectors, such as sports management and marketing, event management, talent representation and media and broadcasting, while also supporting growth in emerging areas like e-sports, AI-driven sports tech, and fan tokens.

Dubai: Woman arrested for being drunk in public sentenced to 6 months in jail, Dh20,000 fine

The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced a woman identified as R.H. to six months in prison and imposed a fine of Dh20,000 on her. The Gulf national was arrested recently while she was drunk in a public place, and caused a riot. She had also assaulted members of the Dubai Police and directed obscene words at them.

In Dubai, consumption of alcoholic beverages is only permitted in restaurants or lounges that have a valid alcohol licence. It is prohibited to consume alcohol in public.

UAE approves remote work for govt entities from outside the Emirates

The UAE on Monday approved a remote work system for government entities operating from outside the country. It is designed to  leverage  talent and  expertise  from outside the UAE to execute special tasks, complete projects, and conduct studies relevant to government operations.  

Though the UAE has implemented remote work in federal entities since 2017, this is the first time it has been applied to employees working outside the country.

UAE Cabinet approves National Investment Strategy 2031 and policy on battling health risks

The UAE Cabinet, led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, approved the National Investment Strategy aimed at increasing foreign investment to Dh240 billion by 2031 and raising the UAE’s total investment stock to Dh2.2 trillion. Key focus areas include industry, logistics, financial services, renewable energy, and IT. The Cabinet also reviewed the National Digital Economy Strategy, aiming to boost its GDP contribution from 9.7% to 19.4%. Additionally, progress on strategic partnerships with African nations was discussed, with trade volume with Sub-Saharan Africa increasing by 87% to Dh235 billion over five years.

Qasr Al Watan, UAE's presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi

Qasr Al Watan' Palace of the Nation' is the current meeting place for the UAE Cabinet and Federal Supreme Council — the highest constitutional authority in the UAE — where official state visits and global leaders are hosted. It is part of the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi and is located at the end of Corniche Road in the capital, past Emirates Palace Hotel.

The opening of Qasr Al Watan to the public is also in line with the UAE's ambition to become a knowledge-based economy as part of Vision 2021, which aims to make the UAE one of the world's best countries.

Freelancers in UAE earn up to Dh3,600 per day; top roles revealed

Freelancers in the UAE command rates of up to $1,000 (Dh3,600) per day, a new report has found. Top skills in demand include cards portfolio management, project and product management, data analytics, business development, and risk management, with day rates starting from $300 (Dh1,100).

Released by independent talent platform Outsized, the 2025 Talent on Demand report said freelancer registrations in the Mena region increased by 78 per cent in the past year.

UAE residents can now use Jaywan to pay in 200 foreign countries with co-badge card

The UAE’s Al Etihad Payments, which operates the national card switch (UAESWITCH) and the domestic card scheme Jaywan, has signed an agreement with Visa to introduce co-badged 'Jaywan - Visa' debit and prepaid cards in the country.

With both Jaywan and Visa logos on the cards, UAE customers will be able to pay in the UAE and at more than 150 million merchant partners across 200 countries and territories when travelling abroad or shopping online.

UAE: New adventure park with zipline, hiking, biking trails to open soon in Sharjah

The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) is developing various hospitality projects and attractions, including an exciting new adventure park in Khor Fakkan. The park will have a zipline, adrenaline-pumping swings as well as hiking trails, its chief executive said.

“We are developing Al Jabel Adventures in Khor Fakkan, which has become a popular destination for hiking and scuba diving etc. We’ll have zipline, swings, Stobel gun rides, hiking and biking trails. It's an exciting project that we hope to deliver towards the end of this year,” Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of Shurooq, told Khaleej Times in an interview.

UAE opens field hospital in South Sudan
