Individual letters Work sheets.pdf
4.0Мб
NOTE:
This letter > ( ا ) is Alif
and this letter > ( أ ) is Hamzah.

The letter Hamzah needs a chair to sit on. Sometimes it sits on a Waaw (ؤ), sometimes on a Yaa (ئ) and sometimes on an Alif (أ). And in all of these 3 cases, it is called 'Hamzah'.

Please keep this in mind!

I'm going to leave it 👆🏽untranslated as an extra motivation for us all to learn the Arabic language.

Advice from Sheikh Abdulḥamīd Az-Zu'kari حفظه الله

Importance of learning the Arabic language

1. The Qur'ān which is one of the greatest source of guidance given to mankind is Arabic.

Allāh ﷻ said in reference to the Qur'ān:
{یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡكُم مَّوۡعِظَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَشِفَاۤءࣱ لِّمَا فِی ٱلصُّدُورِ وَهُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣱ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ}
“O mankind! There has come to you an admonition from your Lord, and a healing for that which is in the chests - a guidance and a mercy for the believers.”
[Sūrah Yūnus 57]

❝It is only those who know the speech of the Arabs who truly appreciate the virtue of the Qur'ān.❞ ['Al-Fawā'id Al-Mushawwiq ilā ‘Ulūmil Qur'ān', Jamālud-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān Al-Balkhī (D. 698 H.)]

2. Similarly, the Sunnah -which explains the Qur'ān- is also Arabic.

And these Divine revelations (the Qur'ān & Sunnah) form the foundation of Islām.

3. Learning the Arabic language allows a person to benefit directly from the speech and works of the scholars, past and present, without an intermediary.

4. A person who is weak in the Arabic language is more vulnerable to being affected by doubts and misconceptions. This is why the enemies of Islām seek to distance the Muslims from learning and understanding the Arabic language. [Sheikh Muqbil's Forward to Al-ḥulal Adh-Dhahabiyyah (paraphrased)]

5. Learning the Arabic language is the key to understanding the rest of the Islamic sciences. [Sheikh Muqbil - same reference as previous point]

6. Although Learning and teaching the Arabic language is a communal obligation, every Muslim is required to learn from the Arabic language -in accordance to their ability- that which will enable them to bear witness that there is none worthy of worship besides Allāh and that Muḥammad is His servant and Messenger, to be able to recite the Qur’ān and say the necessary adh-kār during the Ṣalāh... [Ash-Shāfi’ē, Ar-Risālah]

[NOTE: there was a slip of the tongue when quoting Ash-Shāfi’ē's statement:
I said 'jahdahu', I should have said 'jahduhu' - fā‘il balagha:
فعلى كل مسلم أن يتعلم من لسان العرب ما بلغه جَهدُه...]

7. Allāh has chosen and favoured the Arabic language, so we should make the effort to learn it.

How to make the most of this programme:

1. Sincerity.
{إِن یَعۡلَمِ اللهُ فِی قُلُوبِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣰا یُؤۡتِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣰا}
“If Allāh finds goodness in your hearts, He will give you that which is better.”
[Sūrah Al-Anfāl 70]

Bear in mind, the Arabic language is only a means to reaching the objective. Our objective is to gain an accurate understanding of the Qur'ān and Sunnah in order to implement it correctly.

2. Consistency in seeking knowledge, even if it's not much, will produce great fruits - with Allāh's Permission.

3. Commitment.
You should have a book and pen to hand with every class. Pause, rewind and replay as many times as you like.

4. If you have any little ones, get them involved, but please don't leave them unsupervised with these devices. Also, keep them motivated by setting them suitable tasks along the way.

5. These classes are supplementary to attending physical classes - not an alternative/replacement!

6. To conclude, our Prophet ﷺ said:

((احرص على ما ينفعك واستعن بالله ولا تعجز))

‘Be diligent in what will benefit you, seek assistance in Allāh and do not tire.’ (Muslim, narrated Abū Hurayrah)

This👇🏽is the introductory class to our Arabic programme.

"The basics of Arabic reading & writing"

I'm supposed to send it tomorrow, but keeping with the programme schedule; i.e. Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, I've decided to send it today.

Also, I've gone 6 minutes over time on this one - please forgive me...future classes will be in video format -in shā Allāh-.

Reflect over the saying of Allāh❗️

{یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُونُوا۟ قَوَّ ٰمِینَ لِله شُهَدَاۤءَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِۖ وَلَا یَجۡرِمَنَّكُمۡ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوۡمٍ عَلَىٰۤ أَلَّا تَعۡدِلُوا۟ۚ ٱعۡدِلُوا۟ هُوَ أَقۡرَبُ لِلتَّقۡوَىٰۖ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ اللهَ إِنَّ اللهَ خَبِیرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ}

❝O believers! Stand firm for Allāh and bear true testimony. Do not let the hatred of a people lead you to injustice. Be just! That is closer to righteousness. And be mindful of Allāh. Surely Allāh is All-Aware of what you do.❞

[Sūrah Al-Mā'idah 8]

This 👆🏽is another frequently asked question:

4⃣- 'give a man a fish (i.e. translate for him), and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish (i.e. teach him Arabic), and you feed him for a lifetime.'

3⃣- I saw this on a brother's WhatsApp status today:

“people are learning Japanese to watch anime without subs, but you won't learn Arabic to better appreciate the Qur'ān.”

2⃣- Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen was asked the following question:

“May Allāh bless you. Is the fact that the Qur'ān was revealed in the Arabic language a justification or an excuse for non-Arabs (for not acting upon it) due to it not being revealed in their language?

To which the Shaykh responded:

No, non-Arabs do not have an excuse or a justification in that the Qur'ān is not in their language; Rather it is upon them to learn the language of the Qur'ān, because if understanding the Book of Allāh or the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ is dependant upon learning the Arabic language, then learning Arabic becomes wājib. This is because every action that has to be carried out, in order to be able to perform an obligation, acquires the ruling of being obligatory [or – All actions which if not performed first, an obligatory act cannot be performed, acquire the ruling of being obligatory (even if they are not an obligation within themselves, such as walking to the masjid for Ṣalātul Jamā’ah (for men), since one cannot perform jamā’ah in the masjid unless he walks there, the act of walking in order to get to the masjid becomes wājib upon that individual, and so on…)].

[Fatāwa Nūrun ‘Alad darb]

Here's four pieces of motivation to get us all pushing harder to learn Arabic:

1⃣- [this one goes out to all the sisters out there]:

“I close my sincere advice with the case of a sister who strived and struggled to learn the Arabic language, despite the odds; Despite maintaining a 24-hour routine with her husband, both caring for their two terminally ill children with Batten’s disease, Zakkee – 12 and Zahraa – 10, she still found time to pursue her passion for learning the Arabic language.
Her care shift would finish daily at midnight when I would visit her to teach her for up to an hour, and after I left, she would revise what I had taught her until 2am when she would go to sleep. She would be up again for the Fajr prayer and then resume her care shift at 8am.
My Sister, Umm Zakkee (rahima-hAllaah), died of breast cancer in the early hours of Saturday 16th Ramadhaan (1st December 2001) at the age of 35 years; Please remember her in your prayers.
May Allaah (‘Azza wa Jall) permit her notes[15] to benefit all who seek to learn the Arabic language, and may He (‘Azza wa Jall) cleanse my Sister of her sins and reward her with al-Firdows al-A’laa[16], aameen.
