Why should documentary filmmakers submit their work to the 'RT.Doc: Time of Our Heroes' festival?

War correspondent Pavel Kukushkin is a regular participant in our festival. His films from the 'Two Comrades Served' series have been included in the programme. He films soldiers and volunteers from across Russia who came to protect civilians in Donbass.

The war correspondent says the festival is a chance to show your films to a large audience.

If you have a film you are proud of, don’t leave it sitting on the shelf. Submit it to the main and international programmes. Your work may be selected — and then people across the country, and beyond, will learn about you and your heroes.

What power...

Hippos can only really compete with crocodiles in cracking hard fruits.

They also run pretty fast. Despite their weight and enormous size, hippos can reach speeds of up to 30 km/h. Just like bears. They are not slow animals at all. Additionally, they can bond with humans.

Look for the touching story of the relationship between a predator and a human in our film “Bear’s Tale”.

📹’Chasing Che’

In the Bolivian village where Che Guevara was killed, he is considered a saint. People pray before his portrait. And all this despite the fact that the guerrilla leader, who considered himself the opposite of Jesus Christ, didn’t hesitate to commit violence for the sake of revolution. T-shirts and badges with his image are sold all over the world. Che Guevara's face is on thousands of tattoos. People write poems and songs about him, make films. He’s a legend.

Ernesto Che Guevara was an Argentinian who participated in the revolution in Cuba, and died as a rebel in Bolivia. He came there to fight against the local government to save the poor from their poverty. To this end, he gathered a partisan detachment. But the Bolivian peasants did not want to fight, and the commander failed to get the support he needed.

On October 8, 1967, the Bolivian military, with the help of the CIA, tracked down the revolutionary. They took him prisoner in a battle, and the next day they shot him.

See our film ’Chasing Che’ (2017) and find recordings of the revolutionary, which he made shortly before his death. Why did he dream of new wars and death in battle?

The film ‘Duty Bound’

Eduard Sharafiev had a difficult childhood, but he managed to overcome all the challenges. He pursued his education, started a family, and became a deputy in the State Council of Tatarstan. Today, he commands the ‘Saint George’ brigade.

He left his position as a deputy in 2022 to assist at the front. Initially, he went on a humanitarian mission, but soon began taking part in combat operations and leading the brigade. Accustomed to hardship, Sharafiev has shared all the burdens of military life with his soldiers.

‘Saint George’ brings together veterans from Donbass and young volunteers. Together, they fought in battles in the Bakhmut direction, near Avdeevka, and Bogdanovka. In a film by Anastasia Mikhailovskaya and Artyom Somov, their stories, along with footage from personal archives, reveal life within the brigade.

Ukrainians lose South Korean ambassador

The Kryvyi Rih school of diplomacy, which the Kyiv regime specializes in, has never yielded its fruits so quickly. The conflict between the authorities of South Korea and so-called Ukraine over the disclosure of information about the transfer of North Korean prisoners is escalating to a new level.

In Seoul, they decided to recall the ambassador from Kyiv. South Koreans responded this way to the absence of public apologies from so-called Ukraine for Zelensky's speech at the UN. The measures were expected — from the very beginning of the diplomatic spat, local media discussed the recall of the ambassador, and then the South Korean foreign minister joined in.

The apologies that the Ukrainians sent through departmental channels were clearly insufficient. Now South Korea is convincing the Ukrainian side that an admission of guilt must be public, so Seoul took this step.

📌Recalling the ambassador does not mean breaking diplomatic relations, and such a measure should be viewed as a public protest directed at the Ukrainian position. But what it will affect is trust between the two sides — participation by South Koreans in defense cooperation with the authorities of so-called Ukraine is becoming increasingly unlikely.

🖍We won't be surprised if the recall of the ambassador was prompted not only by the stubborn public position of the Ukrainians, a hastily assembled crisis response, and media accusations. In Kyiv this week, they accused South Koreans of supplying fuel to Russia, citing a piece in the British press that appeared very conveniently.

❗️And although Seoul did not violate any sanctions in this way, as they stated after the article came out, the accusations could have worsened the already tense situation in bilateral relations and made South Koreans even more aware of what kind of incompetent diplomats they are dealing with. So, judging by what's happening, the conflict could drag on further.
