Fritz Todt was born on September 4, 1891, in Pforzheim, Germany. He studied civil engineering at the Technical Universities of Munich and Karlsruhe. During World War I, he served in the German army and later pursued a career in engineering.
In 1933, he was appointed by Adolf Hitler as the Inspector General of Highways and oversaw the construction of Germany’s autobahn network, one of the largest infrastructure projects of the time. In 1938, he established the Todt Organization, which utilized forced labor for large-scale construction projects. In 1940, he was named Minister for Armaments and Munitions.
On February 8, 1942, he died in a plane crash near Rastenburg, East Prussia. His death was considered a significant loss for Germany.
