Today, we honor the sheikh and commander Nour Baraka who ascended to martyrdom in the
Edge of the Sword operation. On November 11, 2018, Nour and resistance fighters thwarted a secret IOF plan to enter Gaza and spy on resistance.
IOF soldiers disguised as NGO workers have gotten through a main checkpoint when they were stopped by the resistance. Nour was especially skeptical and led the interrogation. Certain their cover was blown, the undercover enemy soldiers began shooting. A high-ranking IOF soldier was killed. Within minutes, an IOF helicopter and planes arrived to escort the invaders, blowing up their van with dozens of rockets to hide the evidence of their failed incursion. Despite this, it was in this heroic operation that the resistance retrieved the pistol that became synonymous with
Yahya Sinwar.Nour and six others were martyred in this operation: Omar Abu Hatar, Mohammad Al-Qara, Ala Koidar, Mustafa Abu Odeh, Mahmoud Masabach, and Ala Fasifis. These fighters humiliated the most "elite" of the IOF and were rewarded with martyrdom, reaffirming that Gaza is forbidden to the enemy.
The name Nour means light; Nour's light and the one of his fellow fighters will never be extinguished.
