▪️ | With all the pain and grief, a few things must be known to all who love the Imam. He remained the most successful fallible human being on this earth. He fulfilled tasks that would normally require teams of hundreds of people. He perfected himself in almost every virtue: the best reader, the best writer, the best reciter of the Qur’an, the best military man, the best strategist, the best analyst, the best politician, the best jurist, the best commentator, the best planner, the best administrator, the best speaker, the best president, the best husband, the best son, the best brother, the best brother in law, the best father, the best uncle, the best father in law, the best grandfather, and much more.
The greatest thing was that he desired martyrdom, and it came to him. He excelled in the understanding of the ta’wil of the Qur’an and was able to relate it precisely to contemporary events. His marja’iyyah and jurisprudence remain among the broadest in scope, including modern science. He remained one of the most active people, leading through the latter half of the twentieth century and into the twenty first century. He remained active from the 1950s onward, and somehow, even at the very beginning of his journey, he became globally known. He traveled extensively, formed and shaped hundreds of organizations, imagine he shaped the IRGC and the Basij, and later laid bricks for Hezbollah, Ansar Allah, the Resistance in Syria, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and many more.
Imagine that, in the field of Islamic theology and teaching, around one hundred books came from him. His role as a jurist reached almost every Shia household around the world. He established organizations to settle disputes, helped countries that were lesser known, supported revolutionary movements in Africa, stood with the oppressed of all communities, and excelled in the personal struggle against the nafs. No one ever saw him speaking lies or exaggerating.
He planned a vision to support the emergence of a new Islamic civilization beyond sectarianism, division, and marginalization, a civilization in which Muslims would live according to what Allah had bestowed upon them. He never hated others. His hands reached the oppressed Christians of Syria and Iraq, the oppressed people of Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Cuba, Venezuela, and many other places.
He was a master statesman with a multipolar vision. He envisioned confronting global arrogance, and he succeeded. He fought, remained on the battlefield, established institutions, and pioneered multiple methodologies in the fields of military science, urban warfare, asymmetric warfare, missiles, drones, and new weapons technologies. He also excelled in the arts. He was one of the few jurists to write detailed works on the subject of music and guided the movement of Islamic recitations, poetry, art, calligraphy, digital art, graphic design, and many other creative fields in which the Shia world continues to work.
This is only a percentage of what can be written about his virtues, because it feels suffocating to decide what to write and how much to write. His achievements are simply too vast.
One thing, however, remained. The man under whose command around one hundred to two hundred thousand soldiers, commanders, scientists, and martyrs attained martyrdom was himself destined to join the same line. So he was martyred alongside his children and grandchildren. What a great honor, and what a successful man.
Allah chose the martyrdom of Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah first, because we cannot imagine how he would have been able to bear and cope with the martyrdom of Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei.
