FARDC Weapons captured by M23 north of Masisi during fighting on New Years Eve. Several deaths reported, at least half a dozen.

🔥🇨🇩❌🇷🇼🔥 ProM23 accounts on social media are sharing the images of what they claim are Ex Wagner and French Foreign Legion soldiers hired as Mercenaries by the DRC. Earlier this week, Rwandans reported that over 100 Wagner and 100 former french foreign legion fighters arrived in Goma as part of a mercenary force to fight against the M23 Rebellion.

It is unlikely these are former Wagner or FFL fighters.

🇪🇺🇨🇩❌🇷🇼 The EU has urged the Rwandan government to stop funding the M23 movement in North Kivu and to comply with the peace process decisions carried out by the East African Union in Angola. The DRC has welcomed this statement, and pointed out the massacre carried out by M23 of 131 civilians in the Rutusharu area north of Goma.

Rwanda has denied allegations that they support M23. Instead they point the finger of blame at the DRC. Rwanda is claiming the massacre allegations are fictitious and that the DRC supports the FDLR, a designated terrorist organization who has ties to the Rwandan Genocide of the early/mid 1990s. Additionally they point to the tens of billions of dollars wasted in peacekeeping efforts in the DRC as further evidence that the DRC is both incapable and unwilling of bringing stability to the region.

Both FARDC and M23 have reported a M23 offensive towards Masisi and Sake, in an attempt to cut off Goma from Kinshasa
