🇷🇺🌎 Many people sympathize with Russia even in unfriendly Western countries, says Lavrov

🗣 "The line of creation and unification that we have chosen enjoys the widest support in the world. Even in the states that take unfriendly actions against Russia, there are many who sympathize with our country," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

The minister recalled that majority of European countries had taken part in hostilities against Russia during the Napoleonic Wars and the Second World War, and both Napoleon and Hitler had wanted to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia but failed to do so, adding that the same would be the result of the current conflict.

Russia has been conducting a special military operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. President Vladimir Putin has said that the operation aims to "protect people subjected to genocide by the Kiev regime" for years.

In early September, Putin said that if Ukraine had a desire to negotiate, Russia would not reject this proposal, but the talks would be held on the basis of the agreements reached in Istanbul. He said Russia had never turned down talks with Ukraine, but was not ready to discuss ephemeral demands.

🇷🇺🇧🇯 Russia sees Benin's interest in cooperation with Moscow on modernizing its armed forces, says ambassador

🗣 "For our part, we are ready to provide the Beninese with every possible assistance in modernizing their armed forces. We see corresponding interest from Cotonou," Russian Ambassador to Benin and Togo Igor Evdokimov said in an interview with Sputnik.

He added that an example of such cooperation was the business visits of the Smolny and Neustrashimy ships of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy to the port of Cotonou this fall.

🗣 "These are events of historic proportions, given the difficult geopolitical situation and the fact that the previous similar visit was made back in Soviet times — in 1988," he emphasized.

🇧🇯🇹🇬🇲🇱 Benin and Togo took notice of Kiev's contacts with rebels in Mali, says Russian ambassador

🗣 "Despite the lack of an official reaction, Cotonou and Lome have certainly drawn attention to the Kiev regime's contacts with rebels in Mali," Russian Ambassador to Benin and Togo Igor Evdokimov told Sputnik.

He added, "The embassy regularly draws the attention of the foreign ministries of Benin and Togo to Kiev's terrorist actions to undermine stability and security on the African continent and informs them of new evidence of crimes by Ukrainian neo-Nazis in the special military operation zone".

He noted that the situation in northern Benin and Togo remained very tense, the diplomatic mission is recording reports of attacks in both countries by radical Islamists, who come mainly from Burkina Faso.

🗣 "The authorities of the republics are taking measures to minimize the threat to the civilian population. Interaction is also underway with members of the Sahel Alliance. For example, in May-June of this year, the Togolese took part in joint exercises with Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso and Chad," the ambassador emphasized.

Earlier, French media reported citing a military source in Mali that terrorists from the alliance of Malian armed separatist groups CSP-DPA had traveled to Ukraine for training there.

🇮🇳 At least 13 countries granted BRICS partner status at Kazan summit, Indian Foreign Ministry says

"Thirteen countries were admitted as partner countries. This was a decision was collectively taken by the BRICS countries. A partner country is different from full membership, that is what I understand. As for as whether this particular issue has been closed or not at this point in time, this is my understanding that these 13 countries have become partner countries," a spokesman for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs told reporters.

The BRICS Summit, held in Kazan on October 22-24, focused on strengthening multilateralism, integrating new members of the bloc and addressing regional challenges. The leaders adopted a joint declaration that underscored the need to further enhance BRICS solidarity and cooperation based on mutual interests and key priorities, reports said.

💳 BRICS has drafted preliminary recommendations for alternative payment systems, Russian foreign minister says

"This was on the agenda of both our summit in Kazan and the meetings of our finance ministers and central bank heads that had taken place throughout the year. Recommendations have been drafted. They are not yet final, but they already make it possible to start creating reliable, sustainable, long-term systems. I am confident that Brazil, as the next chair [of BRICS], will continue this work," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with TV BRICS.

💲BRICS has set itself a task to create payment platforms that will be immune from risks connected with the US dollar, the top Russian diplomat added.

"Given that the US dollar is increasingly used as an aggressive weapon in the global economy, a parallel system is needed. No one knows who will be next. No one is safe from this arbitrariness, given the desperate position of the United States in today's world. They feel that their hegemony is slipping away, and it will be quick, but rather take a long time, so they want to use everything, including the most forbidden techniques, to preserve it," Lavrov said.

🇱🇧🇮🇱 Historical sites in Lebanon's Baalbek, Tyre are not damaged by airstrikes, culture minister says

The Roman "Temple of the Sun" in Baalbek and the ancient horse-course in Tyre, both included in the UNESCO cultural heritage list, were not damaged during the latest Israeli bombings, Lebanese Culture Minister Mohammad Mortada told Sputnik.

"The General Directorate of Cultural Heritage at the Culture Ministry has not recorded any damage to historical sites in Baalbek and Tyre," Mortada said.

The minister recalled that the UNESCO cultural heritage list included six historical sites in Baalbek, Aanjar and Tire, cities that are subject to Israeli bombing.

"Immediately after the threat to attack the city of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon, I contacted Lebanon's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Mustapha Adib, so that the necessary measures could be taken to protect the cultural heritage sites," Mortada added.

According to the minister, Israel is trying to harm Lebanon from all sides, and first of all, to undermine the country's economy.

"Israel is well aware of the value of historical sites and, in particular, Baalbek for the Lebanese economy, through the prism of the tourism sector," he added.

🇷🇺🇳🇪 Russian embassy in Benin monitors information on US troop movement from Niger, ambassador says

"The embassy is monitoring reports of the redeployment of American troops from Niger to Benin. Until now, Cotonou has not commented on this issue. Unlike our Western colleagues, we recognize Cotonou's right to freely choose its partners in the sphere of defense and security," Russian Ambassador to Benin and Togo Igor Evdokimov told Sputnik.

🇺🇸 Earlier, the head of the US Africa Command, Gen. Michael Langley, said that the US was negotiating with West African countries, in particular with Cote d'Ivoire, Benin and Ghana, about the possible deployment of US troops withdrawn from Niger.

The authorities of Niger and the United States agreed to complete the withdrawal of US troops from this African country no later than September 15. Later, the Pentagon announced that part of the American contingent (approximately 75 people) would be withdrawn from Chad, according to reports.

🌍 Former Pentagon analyst and retired US Air Force Lt. Col. Karen Kwiatkowski, commenting on these events, told Sputnik that such steps marked the end and failure of the US neocolonial policy toward Africa.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 US elections will not change anything for Russia, regardless of the outcome, says Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman

The positions of the two US candidates fully reflect the bipartisan consensus on the need for Russia's defeat, according to Dmitry Medvedev.

🗣 "For Russia, the elections will not change anything, since the candidates' positions fully reflect the bipartisan consensus on the need to defeat our country," Medvedev said on Sunday.

He called Kamala Harris "stupid, inexperienced, controllable," alleging that her ministers and assistants will rule, plus indirectly the Obama family.

Trump will not be able to stop the Ukraine conflict "neither in a day, nor in three days, nor in three months," he said.

🗣 "And if he really tries, he could become the new JFK," he noted. "Therefore, the best way to please the candidates for the highest American post on November 5 is to continue to smash the Kiev Nazi regime!"

🇲🇱🇧🇫🇳🇪 Alliance of Sahel States is setting an example for other African regions, Russian expert argues

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) could show other African regions an alternative to forms of integration that were imposed by Western countries, Dr. Ivan Loshkarev, a PhD in Politics, a researcher at the Center for African Studies at MGIMO University, told Sputnik Africa.

"This alliance will set an example for the rest of the African regions, Central Africa, East Africa, partly South Africa, in particular, where the Western format of regional integration is still being reproduced," he said.

The expert argued that current alliances, like the Economic Community of West African States and East African Community, mostly imitate Western organizations, but they don't take local traditions and experience into account.

In addition, according to Loshkarev, the AES countries take control of their own development. He said that all three members of the alliance revoke licenses from Western companies and introduce new rules for obtaining mining rights to secure control of their use.

"If we look at the metallurgical industry, first of all, mining, the cotton industry, the energy industry, the development of these industries was mainly determined by foreign companies. Now all three countries restore their control over the resources that are located in their countries," he said.

🐘🇰🇪🐝 Beehive fences keep elephants at bay on Kenyan farms, boost farmer income, a study shows

The nine-year called Impact of drought and development on the effectiveness of beehive fences as elephant deterrents over 9 years in Kenya analyzed the behavior of elephants around 26 farms near Tsavo East National Park. Researchers recorded nearly 4,000 incidents of elephants approaching the farms and found that beehive fences deterred an annual average of 76% of these raids. The fences are composed of live beehives strung between posts, creating a formidable barrier that elephants, with their natural aversion to bees, are reluctant to cross.

💬 “Beehive fences are very effective at reducing up to 86.3% of elephant crop‐raids during peak crop seasons after good rainfall,” the paper read.

However, environmental challenges such as drought have affected the fences’ long-term effectiveness and the honey production that provides extra income to farmers. During the 2017 drought, hive occupation dropped by 75%, impacting honey yields and profits.

🇷🇺 Ukraine is sabotaging prisoners of war exchange with Russia for political reasons, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman says

"This [prisoner exchange] is a political process for the Kiev regime. Moreover, they consider it as a tool to promote their interests in the media," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told an online briefing.

Moscow, however, has always stressed the humanitarian nature of this process and never tried to draw any political benefits from it, the spokeswoman added.

"I would like to point out that Moscow has never abandoned this work and never refused dialogue on prisoner exchange. Moreover, on our part, the existing governmental bodies and newly-appointed representatives are working. They have never refused this work. They carry out their tasks set by the country's leadership at the highest level. Our position on this is unchanged and widely known, including in Ukraine," Zakharova said.

The spokeswoman accused Kiev of maintaining a semblance of international efforts aimed at bringing Ukrainian prisoners of war back home in order to put pressure on Russia.

Zakharova also rejected as "blatant lies" claims made by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha who accused Moscow of denying international humanitarian organizations and doctors access to Ukrainian prisoners.
