Pandukeswar. (Badrinath)
Pandukeswar is a village enroute to Badrinath at an elevation of 6000 F.
This is the place where King Pandu, father of Pandavas of the epic mahabarath, meditated here to God Vishnu, to cleanse him of the sin of killing of 2 mating deers, who where ascetics in their previous lives. The pandavas were also born here and Pandu died and attained salvation here also .
A lot of temples including Yogadhayan Badri temple, where pandu Installed the bronze image of Vishnu, Vasudev temple, Kuber temple, Ghantakarna temple etc are seen in here.Some newly constructed Iodges, hotels, and shops were also seen in Pandukeswar.
According to legend, after the Mahabarath war, the Pandavas came here to repent. They handed over their kingdom to their grandson Parikshith, and begining their mahaprasthan
