How Russian Tu-22 bomber was shot down — GUR chief Budanov tells the details:
— Our soldiers actually waited "in ambush" for a week - waiting for the plane to reach the desired destination.
— The plane was hit at a distance of 308 km. And to destroy it, we used "the same techniques and the same means that we used when we destroyed the A-50 plane in the air".
— Russians still have planes of this type, but "this is the first downing of a long-range aircraft in this war".
— In addition, in a comment on The War Zone, the head of the GUR noted that Ukraine shot down a Russian Tu-22M3 bomber with the help of modernized S-200 air defense system.
As of 2010, Ukraine was reported to have four operational S-200 batteries. The system was withdrawn from service in 2013, but appears to have been reintroduced into service after February 2022.
