Case 56 || Solution ||

The answer to the given question is "Pterygium"

⏩It is a subconjunctival fibrovascular tissue approaching the cornea

⏩2 theories:

✅Connective Tissue disorder OR
✅Type of conjunctival degeneration

⏩Mainly seen in Tropical countries

⏩Etiology: Due to UV rays exposure (M/C UV B rays)

⏩Clinical Features: [Most common nasally]

✅Cosmetic issue (Main problem)
✅May lead to astigmatism
✅Marked Diminution of vision [If it reaches pupillary region can cause]

⏩ How to know Pterygium is progressive or not?

✅On examination under the slit lamp, if we can see inflammatory infiltrates infront of Pterygium, then it is progressive

⏩T/t: Excision of tissue leaving only a bare sclera [BARE SCLERA TECHNIQUE]

⏩Biggest challenge: Recurrence

⏩To prevent recurrence: [2 measures]

✅Give Mitomycin - c
✅Autografting [Best method]
