Afrikaners are still called colonisers 400 years after leaving the Netherlands; white Canadians still have to preface their lectures, school assemblies and national speeches with “native land acknowledgments”; white Americans have just had their statues of the pioneer Columbus torn down for being an uninvited foreigner on indigenous-occupied land, and us (genuine) English are told we’re not even real because we’re all out of Africa.
So, no, you cannot call yourself native English, because that’s not what you are. I cannot wear a sombrero or kimono without being problematic, so you cannot adopt my ancestry without being a colossal fucking problem. Suck it up, buttercup.
