Western European countries lack the military to confront Russia in case of war — Financial TimesThe UK, France, Germany, and Italy are experiencing a decrease in personnel every year. The armies of other countries also have problems, but on a smaller scale. Among the reasons are more attractive salaries in the private sector and problems with providing military housing.
On paper, the European NATO countries have 1.9 million military personnel, which is supposedly enough to confront Russia. But in reality, it will be difficult for them to attract ~300,000 troops. And even then, it will take months to train them.
