17 SEPTEMBER 2022 - International Coastal Cleanup Day
Every third Saturday in September, the world's largest volunteer program, The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), is held. Millions of volunteers around the whole world take part in cleaning up tons of garbage from the coastlines of rivers, lakes, seas, oceans, and the seabed.
Why is сleanup so important?
1) garbage in the water and on the shore negatively affects human health, wildlife and the economy;
2) analysis of data on the quality and quantity of collected garbage provides up-to-date information to environmental and state organizations for the development of decisions and measures for the protection of water bodies and adjacent territories;
3) It is an indispensable way to draw attention to environmental issues.
Over the past 25 years, more than 9 million people from 152 countries have taken part in this program, and this figure will only grow in the coming years! Let's make this world cleaner together!
