North-South Corridor Boost: India Approves Mega Port to Boost Trade with Russia
New Delhi has given the green light to building a major hub along its western coast to further develop trade links with Russia, and it could be operational by 2030.
It's hoped the port, to be built in Maharashtra's Vadhavan, will increase flow via the International North-South Transportation Corridor and the India-Middle East Europe Economic Corridor.
It will reportedly cost in the region of $9 billion, Indian Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal told Parliament, and will be developed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and Maharashtra Maritime Board - creating some one million jobs.
