Jeremy Update:
Laurie Jacobson did not return my call. She is now off for the next few days.
The Assistant Deputy Director of Operations, Darren, advised me to call the central office in Regina to ask about their illegal Covid19 policies and inquire as to why a non-invasive test, such as the spit test, is not being offered to Jeremy to get him out of the Covid assessment unit, (dry cell).
Darren also assured me that Jeremy has received a pen and paper and was permitted to leave his cell for a program, but I can’t confirm until he can call me tomorrow. It is not uncommon for the employees to mislead me to get me off the phone. Earlier today, a manager named Cheryl advised me that he was out of the dry cell - this was not the case. It is possible that someone told her what she wanted to hear as well to get her off their backs. They are understaffed and the facility is over capacity.
Given the amount of UN defined torture Jeremy has undergone for the past 28 days, his mental health will inevitably decline especially due to lack of human contact.
I wish I had better news. I’m at a bit of a loss at the moment. Our system is so broken. The CO’s typically don’t fully identify themselves to me over the phone and they don’t wear name badges within the facility. There is no accountability or any way to properly document injustices and Jeremy is not the only inmate who is being discriminated against.
