Derby: Family Picnic
This weekend families met in Derby for a picnic. We sat underneath some trees, which sheltered us from the occasional light shower, and ate a wonderful selection of homegrown produce and delicious home-baked goodies.
We spotted a sign translated into another language warning that illegal crayfish trappers will be fined. Our native crayfish has been in sharp decline due to the Crayfish Plague that came with the introduction of a foreign species.
Beside the River Derwent, it is common to spot areas dominated by Himalayan Balsam, a foreign plant which smothers out native flora.
Nationalists are true conservationists of all native flora and fauna. We all lent a hand in 'bashing the balsam' which made for light work! Stay tuned for the video...
