Salah’s Ballon d’Or Hopes Depend on Liverpool’s Success, Says Slot
Arne Slot believes Mohamed Salah's chances of winning his first Ballon d’Or will increase significantly if Liverpool win major trophies this season.
Salah, 32, has been outstanding, scoring 30 goals and delivering 21 assists. But Slot stressed that individual brilliance alone might not be enough.
“Someone that wins the Ballon d’Or usually needs to win something too,” the Liverpool boss said. “It’s a challenge for both him and the team.”
Liverpool are in a strong position in multiple competitions, leading the Premier League by 11 points, facing Newcastle in the League Cup final, and preparing for PSG in the Champions League last 16.
When asked about comparisons to Ronaldo and Messi, Slot sidestepped the debate but acknowledged Salah’s long-term excellence.
On Salah’s contract situation, he admitted, “The better he plays, the more expensive he becomes, but that’s a good thing—unless you’re the one paying his salary.”
