🔴 Today I want to show you the streets of the ancient Russian city of Veliky Novgorod.
Here all the churches are squat, monumental, looking like ancient bogatyrs. A bit like old Georgian or Armenian churches of about the same time (about X-XIII centuries).
At that time there was a democratic republic with a "parliament" (Novgorod veche) and an elected prince - "president" and developed trade, writing (birch-bark letters).

🔴 I propose today to immerse ourselves a little in the Middle Ages. It is quite easy to do this in Russia. Especially in the Crimea.
I invite you to a walk around the Genoese fortress, Sudak, Crimea.

It was built by the Genoese in the XIV - XV centuries, as a stronghold for their colony in the northern Black Sea coast. Successful location of the fortress and powerful fortifications made the fortress almost impregnable: from the west the fortress is difficult to access, from the south and east it is protected by steep walls of the mountain, descending to the sea, and from the north-east, probably, there was an artificial moat, the existence of which is assumed by some researchers.
It is easy to feel like a medieval knight or a merchant mariner.

🔴 We share another masterpiece of northern architecture. The house of a prosperous peasant Gusev. v. Ovsyannikovskaya, Arkhangelsk region.

The family house was built in 1886. As it often happens, the beautiful and the terrible walk side by side. Unfortunately, the Gusev family repeated the path of many peasant families in Russia. In 1917. The Gusevs were kukulized, deprived of voting rights. The elder Gusevs were kicked out of the house.
But the beautiful house remained a monument to the diligence and fortitude of the northern settlers!
