The situation for government forces is critical in Aleppo. It is a reality. So much so that the SNA has begun to advance south of al-Bab while the HTS-led coalition is in the process of not only reversing the SAA gains of 2019-2020, but also those of 2017-2018.
However, the rebel advance from the north and west has put the SDF/YPG on alert, aware that the fall of the government in Aleppo spells the end of the Tell Rifaat and Manbij areas, as well as the Sheikh Maqsud district.
Indeed, what we are witnessing now is an agreement between SDF and government similar to the one that took place in the fall of 2019, when government troops were deployed on the border and front lines to stop the new SNA offensive north of Raqqa and Hasakah. In response the SDF/YPG is deploying to strategic positions to support and assist in the defense against terrorist groups.
As I have mentioned before. geopolitics makes for strange bedfellowships....
