JD VANCE DROPS DOLLAR BOMBSHELL: Calls Reserve Currency Status a “RESOURCE CURSE” — America Prepares for a NEW FINANCIAL ERA

JD Vance drops a dollar bombshell, calling reserve-currency status a “resource curse” as gold buying, Japan’s Treasury exposure and mounting pressure on the global fiat system raise questions about what comes next.

Vice President JD Vance just challenged one of Washington’s most sacred economic assumptions: that the dollar’s position as the world’s dominant reserve currency is unquestionably good for America.

“I am not sure that I think the reserve currency is actually good for the United States of America.”

Then came the bombshell:

“I think there is a good argument that reserve currency status is akin to coal in Appalachia. It’s a resource curse.”

According to Vance, reserve-currency status allows Americans to “consume very cheaply” while enabling the country to “borrow, basically in an unlimited way.” But that advantage carries a deeper cost.

AMERICA CONSUMED CHEAPLY — BUT WHAT DID IT LOSE?
Vance’s argument goes directly to the heart of the America First economic agenda.

Cheap imports may benefit consumers, while easy borrowing benefits Washington and Wall Street. But the same system can encourage America to consume instead of manufacture, borrow instead of save, and depend on foreign production rather than rebuild its industrial base.

That question arrives as pressure across the global monetary system continues to build.

In 1971, America ended dollar convertibility into gold. In 2019, serious stress erupted in the U.S. repo market. Then came COVID and unprecedented monetary and fiscal intervention.

Now, the questions are returning.

China and other central banks have accumulated gold, while the broader debate over the dollar’s long-term dominance continues to grow.

Something is moving beneath the surface of the old monetary order.

JAPAN — A MAJOR PRESSURE POINT
Then comes Japan, one of the most important pressure points in the system.

Japan remains a massive holder of U.S. Treasury securities while facing pressure surrounding the yen and its own monetary policy. The broader thesis is that large-scale Japanese Treasury sales could send shockwaves through U.S. debt markets and global dollar liquidity.

That is why mechanisms such as the Federal Reserve’s FIMA facility, and the ability to provide dollar liquidity without forcing foreign institutions to dump Treasuries, matter.

Vance did not make this Japan argument himself, but it forms part of the larger financial picture surrounding the dollar system he is now openly questioning.

GOLD RISES AS THE OLD SYSTEM FACES NEW QUESTIONS

Put the pieces together:

Massive U.S. debt. Global central-bank gold accumulation. Japan’s Treasury exposure. Pressure on fiat currencies. Questions about American manufacturing. And now the Vice President openly challenging reserve-currency orthodoxy.

Vance did not announce that the Trump administration is ending the dollar’s reserve-currency status.

What he actually said may be more significant:

“I am not sure that I think the reserve currency is actually good for the United States of America.”

For an administration focused on rebuilding American production, industry and economic sovereignty, that raises a powerful question:

WHAT GOOD IS A GLOBAL FINANCIAL SYSTEM IF AMERICA CAN BORROW AND CONSUME CHEAPLY - BUT LOSES THE FACTORIES, JOBS AND PRODUCTIVE POWER THAT MADE IT STRONG?

Trump and Vance have made rebuilding American manufacturing central to their economic project. Now Vance is questioning whether the dollar system itself helped create the imbalance they want to reverse.

Gold is moving. Debt is enormous. Japan remains a pressure point. Central banks are preparing.
And now the reserve-currency system itself is on the table for debate.
