The Detainees Commission and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society released a statement addressing the 22nd anniversary of the detention of Palestinian leader and national struggle detainee Marwan Barghouti.

They said that this anniversary coincides with the massive aggression against the Palestinian people and detainees in Israeli prisons, and as the Israeli occupation continues its genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Barghouti survived an assassination attempt in 2001 after "Israel" accused him of founding the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades; he survived and he was arrested on April 15, 2002.

Hailed as the 'Palestinian Mandela,' several campaigns by prominent Palestinian figures, members of European Parliament, and the Israeli group Gush Shalom, called for Baghouti's release.
