Tartarian TeaJiaogulan (Gynostemma) grows in a number of Asian countries, the earliest historical documentation of the herb comes from China, at the beginning of the Ming Dynasty.
In 1406, the physician Zhu Xiao described and sketched Jiaogulan in his book Materia Medica.
Gynostemma is a vine that grows wild and has been used traditionally as a heart tonic and energy booster. Studies have shown that it may help to lower cholesterol, blood pressure, and heart rate. Gynostemma is also rich in antioxidants, containing more than eighty saponins that help prevent cancer and increase immune functions. It is available as a tea or in supplement form.
