🇬🇧 #UK: A ULEZ camera was destroyed with an improvised explosive device this week in Sidcup, southeast London. An investigation by counter-terrorism police was launched. The blast took place roughly 90 minutes after another ULEZ camera was cut down nearby.
A ULEZ camera is a surveillance device used to enforce Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) regulations in urban areas. It captures and identifies vehicles entering the zone, allowing the government to monitor and penalise anyone that doesn’t meet the required emission standards.
A campaign of sabotage against the ULEZ cameras has been ongoing across the UK for more than a year now. ULEZ raises privacy concerns and is a financial burden for vehicle owners who can’t afford to buy new low-emission cars.
