About "Say Amen (Saturday Night)"
Single by Panic! at the Disco
Produced by Jake Sinclair
Released 2018
“Say Amen (Saturday Night)” was one of two singles released to announce Panic! At The Disco’s sixth studio album Pray for the Wicked. The other single was “(Fuck A) Silver Lining.”
In an Alternative Press interview, Brendon Urie explained that this song he is his way of trying to reconcile his career with his early Mormon roots, even though he admits to not being religious at all anymore (see Song Q+A below). Although he is longer religious, Brendon has stated that “Say Amen” was not intended to spite his religious roots.
I still pray and feel a spirituality, I wanted to portray that in a way that wasn’t necessarily a dig at anybody. [“Say Amen”] was my way of saying that I still worship and praise
The song also includes a sample of a tour transition that was used before “Nine in the Afternoon” on the band’s headlining Death of a Bachelor Tour.
The video for the song acts as a prequel to “This is Gospel” and “Emperor’s New Clothes” in a music video trilogy directed by Daniel “Cloud” Campos. The last scene in the music video for “Say Amen”, which features Urie unconscious alongside a sample of a heartbeat, is very similar to the first scene in “This is Gospel.”
