📱 Sam Altman's First Interview After the GPT-4o Presentation
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman commented for the first time on the new GPT-4o model, unveiled during the company's recent presentation. He described it as a combination of efforts from OpenAI specialists and also expressed doubt that there will be a GPT-5.
💥 Why is GPT-4o important?
We've had the idea of voice-controlled computers for a long time. We had Siri and things before that, but they've never felt natural to me. We've been working on audio and visual models and tying them together. It's not like we unlocked this one crazy new thing all at once, but we put a lot of pieces together.
🤔 Will There Be a GPT-5?
We honestly don't know yet. Although the traditional way a tech company launches products, we should probably do something different now. We could still call it GPT-5 and launch it in a different way, or we could call it something different.
🤔 What's Better: Specialized or Generalized Models?
I would bet that it's the generalized model. If the model can do generalized reasoning, it can figure out new things.
👍 The Main Distinctive Feature of Human and AI Interaction in 2 Years Will Be...
Natural language. I'm more excited about humanoid robots than other robots because the world is designed for humans, and I don't want that to get reconfigured for more efficient things. I like the idea that we talk to AI in a very well-human-optimized language.
☹️ When Will AGI Appear
My naive conception when we started was that we would get to a moment where we didn't have AGI, and then we did, and it would be a real discontinuity. I think there's some chance of a real discontinuity, but on the whole, I think it's going to look much more like a continuous exponential curve.
🔥 Altman Also Discussed:
→ How OpenAI will monetize its technologies;
→ How the government should regulate AI.
