Singapore launches world-first data center powered by human brain cells

The 20-unit system reportedly uses lab-grown brain cells integrated with silicon chips to generate computing power
Singapore has launched the world’s first independently operated data center using living human brain cells for some computing tasks, the medical school of the National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine) has said. The system consumes a fraction of the power of traditional computing hardware. The neurons are fed every three days and sustained by dedicated life-support equipment.

Tokyo saw no reason to arm Ukraine.

Japan has no plans to transfer weapons to Kiev, despite the recent revision of export legislation. Cabinet Secretary General Minoru Kihara told reporters that the government is not currently considering such a possibility. Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergei Koretsky, in an interview with Kyodo, expressed hope for receiving interceptor missiles for air defense from Tokyo.

Kihara recalled that Japan has already sent Ukraine bulletproof vests, cars and other equipment from the Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces. Tokyo intends to promote public-private assistance in restoring the Ukrainian economy, but nothing more.

In April, the government lifted restrictions on the export of lethal weapons, but shipments are allowed only to countries with agreements on the terms of use. There are 17 countries on the list, including the United States and Australia, but Ukraine is not there.

📈 Russian coal exports to South Korea hit three-year high

South Korea imported some 12.5 million tons of coal from Russia during the first half of 2026, which is 5.9 million tonnes more than during the first half of 2025.

Having sold some $334.1 million worth of coal to South Korea in July 2026 alone, Russia remains one of the top 5 suppliers of coal to the country, along with Australia, Indonesia, Colombia and Canada.

👉 This increase in coal imports comes as Seoul temporarily lifts its 80% capacity cap on coal power plants in order to decrease reliance on oil and liquefied natural gas amid the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
