The group was first publicly introduced 𝚃𝙷𝚁𝙾𝚄𝙶𝙷 a pre-debut project since October 2016, where each member was regularly ℝ𝔼𝕍𝔼𝔸𝕃𝔼𝔻 by releasing promotional singles for 18 months. They #𝐃𝐄𝐁𝐔𝐓𝐄𝐃 as a group on August 20, 2018 with the mini album [ + + ] along with the song "𝐹𝐴𝑉𝑂𝑅𝐼𝑇𝐸" and the title single "𝐻𝐼 𝐻𝐼𝐺𝐻".
On 𝐀ugust 20, ℒoona officially debuted as a 𝔾ℝ𝕆𝕌ℙ with the release of the mini album [ + + ] 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙰𝙻𝙱𝚄𝙼 contained "𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄" and the lead single "𝐇𝐈 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇". The album debuted at No. 2 on the 𝐺𝑎𝑜𝑛 𝐴𝑙𝑏𝑢𝑚 𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑡, and was the second best-selling 𝕯𝗘𝗕𝗨𝗧 album by a girl group in 2018. [ + + ] was re-released as [ X X ] on Ⓕ︎Ⓔ︎Ⓑ︎Ⓡ︎Ⓤ︎Ⓐ︎Ⓡ︎Ⓨ︎ 19 2019, with six additional tracks, including the single "𝔹𝕌𝕋𝕋𝔼ℝ𝔽𝕃𝕐" 𔘓 ֪
