Microsoft brings Linux commands to Windows

Microsoft has released Coreutils, a project that brings Linux-like command-line utilities that run natively on Windows. This is based on uutils, a cross-platform reimplementation of GNU Coreutils in Rust.

Instead of creating separate executables for each program, a single coreutils.exe binary contains all the functions, and the executables are all hardlinks to coreutils.exe.

Some commands like dir, kill, etc. aren't included because they conflict with CMD and/or Powershell.

Telegram APK from APKPure is a spyware

On analyzing the APK with jadx, it contains a class DataCollector, which does not exist in the .apk file downloaded from the official Telegram website.

This class collects a lot of your data, including:
- Your photos, videos, and files
- Your contacts
- Your messages
- Your GPS Coordinates
- Your SIM card information
- Your Telegram profile

This data is monitored and uploaded continuously. All the data is uploaded to a server with IP Address 38.190.225.166

Firefox is getting the biggest redesign in years

Mozilla's "Project Nova" will bring better performance, a new cleaner UI, tab groups, split view, vertical tabs, redesigned settings, easier privacy controls, new themes, wallpapers, better dark mode, and more. Along with this, compact mode is returning to Firefox.

Tabs now have a softer shape with a subtle gradient, components are rounded and consistent, icons are clear and more balanced, spacing is rebalanced, and the refreshed color palette is inspired by the feeling of fire.

"Project Nova" is a renewal, not a replacement. It will roll out later this year.

Snapseed has finally got a major update on Android and iOS

Google has finally released a major update for Snapseed, jumping from version 2.2 to 4.0 on Android.

A new Snapseed camera has been introduced, to capture using custom styles or film looks, with real-time effects that can be edited or reset later. The release has also added Smart Masking for one-tap subject selection, Batch Editing for multi-photo workflows, support for RAW files with non-destructive edits, and more.

And of course, everything is free of cost, without any watermarks.

Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model without consent

Google Chrome downloads a 4 GB on-device AI model file called weights.bin in the OptGuideOnDeviceModel folder without any consent or setting. This is the weights for Gemini Nano, Google's on-device LLM. If the file is deleted, Chrome will re-download it.

This download triggers when Chrome's AI features are active, even if you're not "using" any AI feature. The AI features are turned on by default in newer Chrome versions.

👨‍💻 Google Apps are getting new gradient icons.

Drive will still feature its classic green, yellow, and blue colors, which match the three editor apps. The editor apps themselves will now have single-color gradients—Meet will be yellow, and Chat will be green.

Gmail’s icon will mostly remain the same, while Calendar will return to its older design. Tasks will keep its familiar tick, and Voice will also stay similar to its current look.

Forms will continue to have its purple color, while Sites will switch from a dark blue to a lighter shade.

👨‍💻 OpenAI is Developing an AI-Centric Smartphone, Replacing Apps with AI Agents

OpenAI is working with Qualcomm & MediaTek to co-develop smartphone chips and has chosen Luxshare as its exclusive partner for system design and manufacturing.

The goal is to replace traditional apps with AI-powered agents, with OpenAI seeking control over both the hardware and operating system to optimize its AI agent services.

Currently in the early stages, final specifications and supplier decisions are expected by late 2026 or early 2027. Mass production is planned for 2028.

Pause Windows Updates for up to 35 Days (and Beyond)

You can now pause Windows Updates for up to 35 days, with no limit to how many times you can extend it. Essentially, you can pause updates indefinitely.

The Power menu has been updated to always display the standard Restart and Shut Down options, so you can reboot or power off without triggering pending updates.

Driver, .NET, and firmware updates are now synchronized with the monthly quality update, streamlining the update process to just one restart per month. Driver updates will now show the device class (e.g., audio, battery, etc.), and you can skip updates immediately during OOBE (Out-Of-Box Experience).

Amazon bought MX Player in mid-2024, merging it with miniTV to target the Indian market.
The Pro (ad-free) version was removed from Play Store in most regions, limiting access. Ads increased heavily in the free version, shifting focus from offline playback to streaming and downloads.
It's now region-locked to India, cutting off global users.

Pro Version Update also so Slow with Still feels like the Classic, Real Mx Player.

Overall, Amazon's changes have pushed away MX Player's original offline-focused audience.

A backdoor in Nekogram was found that steals phone numbers, hidden in Extra .java. The code sends data through an inline query to @nekonotificationbot with minimal trace. If multiple accounts are connected, the developer can link them to the same person.

⚠️ Unfortunately, the Google Play Store version is also affected!!!

It’s unclear whether similar issues exist in forks like AyuGram and ExteraGram. These projects don’t provide up-to-date source code (some haven’t been updated in years), making it impossible to verify their latest releases.
