It's easy to miss the significance of the British decision to send depleted uranium rounds to Ukraine. Summed up dispassionately by even the best and most truthful news reporters, the enormity of imperialist war crimes still don't easily hit home.
Depleted uranium is a nuclear weapon. It poisons the land, the air and the water. Not just for now but for a long time. Cancer cases in Fallujah (another victim city of these heinous weapons) are higher than amongst Hiroshima survivors. But the British media simply says that the shells are 'controversial' and leaves it at that.
What will happen to Ukraine's people if their food, water and animals are poisoned (assuming the region's breadbasket will still produce crops)? What will happen to the world's people if poisoned food is exported from this region?
How would you feel if this was happening where you live? If, besides having to rebuild your devastated country, you had to live with the permanent fear that you or your friends and family members might at any time develop some aggressive cancer? If your mothers, sisters and daughters were afriad to celebrate new life, and instead had to spend every moment of every pregnancy in fear for the viability of the babies they were carrying?
All this is mere collateral damage as far as the emperors of finance capital are concerned -- all a 'price worth paying' (by someone else) in the pursuit of their profit margins and continued hegemony.
