🇱🇰 - The speaker of Sri Lanka's radical left leaning parliament has resigned after allegedly falsifying a PhD qualification from a prestigious Japanese university.
The claim arose and had been raging for about a week regarding the veracity of the Speaker's qualification. Sri Lankan OSINT sleuths had uncovered that the honorific "Dr" magically disappeared from the parliament website and amidst mounting pressure from social media and various questions raised by journalists, to which the current government kept silent, the speaker resigned declaring that he had made no false claims. He added, after resigning, that he would submit evidence of his doctorate.
Commentators question the historically Communist party's integrity as mainstream sources declare it a massive blow to the party, launched on a mandate of "anti-corruption" and "anti-fraud".
Commentators also question why the current President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, alleged to have mountains of evidence pertaining to fraud couldn't muster a single document in support of the Speaker's supposed qualification, despite increasing calls for evidence and resignation.
The Parliament had clarified today that the qualification had been added mistakenly. This is amongst the fact that two other MPs had apparently had similar qualifications removed from their Parliament website description.
