This school was opened in 1848 and has always had the tradition of students walking across the stage at the graduation ceremony and collecting their diplomas without fanfare. Three black students danced and elicited laughter from the audience, so this White HS principal decided to not give them their diplomas. She was fired for not giving blacks special treatment and refusing to apologize for it.

The Jew Wilhelm Reich was the psychoanalyst who coined the term "Sexual Revolution." He sought to blend Freudianism and Marxism. Reich also created a pseudoscience called "Orgone Energy." He got into trouble with the FDA for claiming it could cure cancer. Reich later died in prison after being convicted for contempt of court.
