This is, for the most part, a consequence of totally unregulated neo-liberal capitalism.
Industries which provided mass employment have been lost to sweatshops in Asia. It is routine to have expensive commutes to a place of work (also made worse by relentless privatisation). Many families are virtually reliant on credit as a consequence of the debt-spiralling financial system.
Addressing immigration and demographics alone, will not solve these underlying problems.
I can't stress this enough, because one of the reasons why the electorate have such a negative view of the 'nationalist' sphere is because of the perception that 'nationalists' just offer easy answers to problems that are vague or flawed, and it aggravates people, even if they AGREE with the stances.
